This position is responsible for the connection, disconnection and maintenance of gas and water services. The work consists of related utility maintenance duties and the purpose is to assist in the maintenance of utility services. Successful performance helps ensure the efficient and effective provision of services to the citizens of Warner Robins. Guidelines include operator qualification procedures, work orders, the customer service manual and the city code. This position will assist in the location of water, gas and sewer utilities for contractors, homeowners, other utility companies and department personnel. Install and inspect meters for proper operation. Respond to after-hours emergencies. Assist in the repair and maintenance of leaks and broken mains. Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment. Complete required reports. Performs related duties.
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or the equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with having had a similar position for one (1) to two (2) years. Knowledge of department safety policies and procedures. Knowledge of water and gas meter operations and maintenance. Knowledge of the characteristics of natural gas. Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles and equipment. Skill in oral and written communication. Possession of a valid Georgia Driver’s License (Class C or higher).

Work is performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. Lift light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, crawl under houses, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color and utilizes the sense of smell. Work is performed outdoors, with exposure to cold and inclement weather, insects, rodents, animals, noise, dirt, dust, grease and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
