This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising and assisting with the day to day activities of the sign and paint shop. Major duties include training, assigns, supervising, evaluating, and disciplining personnel. Supervises and performs on-site layout work; prepares for installation and maintenance of traffic control signs and pavement markings; ensures compliance with work orders. Monitors supply inventory; orders supplies as needed. Inspects vehicles and equipment for daily operation; monitors construction work zones to ensure employee and public safety. Plans and supervises the installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical traffic counters and traffic control signs. Monitors budgeted funds, section goals, and objectives. Perform related duties.
Knowledge of departmental and city policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations. Knowledge of city geography, including street and utilities locations. Knowledge of public works construction, maintenance, and repair procedures and methods. Knowledge of equipment and tool operation and maintenance practices. Knowledge of traffic laws and rules involved in vehicle and equipment operation and basic traffic control/barricade procedures. Skill in performing preventive maintenance on equipment. Skill in supervising the work of other employees. Skill in oral and written communication.
