This position is responsible for responding to emergency scenes to perform basic and advanced emergency medical care, assist fire, rescue, hazardous material mitigation, and assist with other emergencies that may arise. The Paramedic performs various patient care activities in the pre-hospital setting, in accordance with all rules and regulations set forth by the GA State Department of Public Health.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Responds to medical emergencies and uses EMS skills to evaluate, treat, stabilize and transport patients to the appropriate medical facility as allowed by Georgia’s scope of practice and department protocols. This position performs at an advanced level of medical assessment and treatment.
Responds to natural and man-made disasters; participates in emergency response activities.
Completes required training and maintains all required certifications.
Inspects equipment to ensure that it is in proper working order; washes and cleans equipment on a regular basis; repairs and performs routine maintenance on equipment; ensures the proper functioning of all emergency medical equipment and vehicles.
Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies aboard emergency vehicles; conducts regular inspections.
Completes required reports detailing fire and medical incident responses.
Drives and operates firefighting and EMS vehicles, apparatus and equipment as assigned.
Responds to fire alarms and supports firefighting operations in carrying out actions efficiently to control the emergency at hand; assists with the fighting of structural fires.
Provides fire prevention information to the public; assists in teaching fire safety and CPR classes; provides tours of the fire station.
Performs pre-incident planning for county businesses.
Assists in fire hydrant and hose inspections and testing.
Performs housekeeping, grounds keeping, and building maintenance duties.
Provide assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work, to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service. State of Georgia certified Paramedic. Possession of valid Basic and Advanced Life Support for Healthcare Providers Certification. Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Within 12 weeks of start date must complete and possess Firefighter I certification, and Hazmat Awareness Certification set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act. Skill in oral and written communication.
