The City of Holly Springs, Georgia, is looking for a qualified individual to serve as our Accountant.


The Finance Department works to ensure the City of Holly Springs is fiscally sound and is responsible for the accounts payable and receivable, accounting and financial reporting, budget management, financial analysis and planning, property tax billing and collection, payroll processing and quarterly and annual payroll tax reporting.


Typical duties of our Accountant include:

  • Prepares bank deposits.
  • Scans and maintains files for deposit, journal entries, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepares adjusting journal entries and enters transactions into the general ledger.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations, researches discrepancies.
  • Assists with annual tax billing and collections.
  • Prepares account adjustments and corrections.
  • Assists with financial audits; prepares capital asset spreadsheets; organizes and researches files.
  • Assists in preparing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and Distinguished Budget Presentation.
  • Processes bi-weekly and monthly payroll.
  • Prepares bi-weekly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax returns.
  • Assists with human resources functions.
  • Assists with risk management functions.
  • Provides customer service; answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance; refers to appropriate personnel; takes messages.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field with accounting classes. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for two to three years. Preference given to applicants with governmental accounting experience.


Knowledge of city and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in the United States of America. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in the provision of customer service. Skill in the maintenance of files and records. Skill in the use of such office equipment as a computer, scanner, fax machine, and copier. Skill in oral and written communication.


Compensation: The hourly pay range for this position is $20.93 to $31.40 with excellent benefits. The City of Holly Springs, Georgia provides competitive benefits and compensation package to eligible employees including 12 paid holidays, paid time off, health, dental, vision, employer-paid long-term disability as well as life insurance, and an employer-paid pension plan.
