     This position is responsible for supervising and participating in the work of a utility crew engaged in constructing, installing, repairing and maintaining the city’s water distribution system.  Inspects the work of assigned personnel to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established guidelines and safety regulations.  Oversees the installation of new water lines, mains, and meters.  Operates a variety of equipment, machinery and tools used in department projects and activities.  Responds to public questions or comments pertaining to work site projects or personnel.  Oversees and participates in the location and repair of major and minor water leaks.  Ensures assigned work areas, equipment, and vehicles are cleaned, stored, and properly maintained.  Completes and maintains related reports and work order logs.  Performs related duties.  Work is typically performed outdoors while intermittently standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping.  Lift light and heavy objects, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and distinguish between shades of color.  The employee may be exposed to inclement weather and machinery with moving parts.  Requires the use of protective devices such as goggles or gloves.  Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills associated with a high school education.  Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one (1) to three (3) years experience or service.  Possession of or the ability to obtain a Georgia Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License within one (1) year of employment.  Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in supervising and inspecting the work of other employees.  Knowledge of departmental and city policies and procedures, including personnel policies and procedures and safety policies and procedures.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills associated with a high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one (1) to three (3) years experience or service.
