The Development Inspections Division is seeking an individual to supervise and coordinate the work of staff in the review of permit and plan applications for compliance with county codes and ordinances. This position also routinely provides technical assistance to customers. The role requires the ability to read and understand plans as well as interpret and implement codes, ordinances, and regulations. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; conducts interviews and selects new employees; and responds to and resolves employee problems and customer complaints.
Coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; ensures that plan reviews are completed in a timely manner according to department standards; confers with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise; develops work schedules to ensure adequate coverage; and reviews/approves time sheets and leave requests.
Ensures staff compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
Supervise the residential plan review staff, oversees residential plan review for compliance with County codes, ordinances and zoning conditions.
Interprets, applies, and enforces County codes, ordinances, regulations pertaining to architectural design requirements, zoning conditions, and other applicable federal, state and local codes, laws, rules, regulations, specifications, standards, policies and procedures.
Organizes and conduct meetings with customers, architects, builders, contractors, property owners, and the public to assist with the plan review process.
Performs field inspections as required to review construction of architectural design requirements, zoning conditions and related requirements in relation to plans/specifications.
Conducts review of plans, architectural renderings and related documents to verify compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and zoning conditions.
Identifies noncompliance issues and corrections required for plans to achieve compliance with codes; ensures necessary corrections are made to plans and meet compliance prior to issuance of permits.
Provides information and technical assistance concerning residential architectural plan review activities, code requirements, code interpretation, code compliance, and related issues; assists the public in preparing applications for plan review submittal; discusses status of plan reviews, problem areas, and changes/needed corrections with property owners, builders developers, contractors, and architects; recommends solutions to problems; responds to questions or complaints, research problems, and initiates problem resolution; provides information and technical expertise to other staff members.
This classification is designated as a safety sensitive position which is subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as stated in policies adopted by Forsyth County concerning drug and alcohol.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Architecture or closely related field; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience and/or training involving urban planning, architecture, local/regional land use, zoning, land development plan review, site plan review, and personal computer operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
