This position is responsible for the identification and appraisal of personal property. Receives, audits, and appraises personal property returns to ensure taxability, correct levels of depreciation, and exemption qualifications; conducts research to determine and estimate value on property that is new or non-returned. Processes appeals; prepares and presents information to the Board of Equalization, Hearing Officer, or Superior Court. Conducts property discovery; compiles information and prepares reports. Assists with the interpretation and explanation of state and local laws pertaining to personal property appraisal and assessment. Prepares and processes various forms, reports, and documents, including personal property forms, exempt forms, account corrections, spreadsheets, etc.; makes recommendations for adjustments or deletions from tax digest. Creates and maintains files for each personal property owner on the tax digest, both active and exempt. Assists Tax Commissioner’s Office and other taxing districts with exchange of information and resolving problems. Performs Board of Appraisers secretarial duties. Performs related duties.
