Job Description

The City of Sylvester Utility Billing Clerk is currently seeking applicants for a Utility Billing Clerk. Qualified applicant must have knowledge of city policies and procedures, utility service rates and charges and computerized utility billing systems. Must have knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, computerized systems for maintaining financial records and skills in maintaining accurate records and preparing reports. Along with ability to get along with others and work effectively with the public, other city employees, contractors, and co-workers. Also, the ability to multi-task and work within deadlines.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Processes city utility bill transactions; prepares utility bills for customers, including verifying and transferring meter readings, auditing reports for high or low consumption, and printing and mailing bills.
  • Process work orders to have services turned on or off, meters re-read or repaired, and for new utility cut-ins; establishes customer accounts.
  • Checks completed work orders of replaced meters; prepares adjustment request forms to adjust accounts for correct consumption data.
  • Verifies and changes rates, sales tax, and fuel adjustments as necessary.
  • Responds to inquiries concerning customer bills to include questions and complaints regarding utility bills and city services.
  • Maintains monthly record of meter read errors; maintains daily record of all billing activity.
  • Dispatches work crews when emergency calls are received.
  • Types correspondence, reports, and documents as requested.
  • Prepare and process the monthly landfill report to include requesting payment be made to the appropriate vendor.
  • Prepare and process invoices to external vendors as required.
  • Prepare monthly bank drafts.
  • Performs general office duties: answers the telephone, pickup incoming mail from Post Office, processes outgoing mail and takes to post office.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Experience

1 year of experience web design photography and video editing
