CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION

 

CLASSIFICATION TITLE:  BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER

 

 

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

 

The purpose of this classification is to perform custodial work in and around assigned County buildings and properties.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Performs custodial and housekeeping duties required to maintain and keep a clean and safe environment in assigned County buildings.

 

Polishes furniture; washes doors, walls and railings; dusts shelves; removes trash and debris; takes out trash and recyclables; replaces light bulbs and trash can liners; cleans carpets, counters and tables; sweeps and mops floors; strips, waxes and buffs floors; cleans bathrooms; unclogs toilets and sinks; moves furniture; and cleans windows and mirrors.

 

 

Restocks supplies such as toilet paper, soap and paper towels in rest rooms.

 

Picks up trash/debris from grounds surrounding County buildings. 

 

Moves furniture, boxes, file cabinets and other light structures as requested.

 

Operates custodial equipment, and tools, including floor strippers and buffers, vacuums, mops, awn mowers, carpenter and electrician tools, rakes, shovels, mops, weed eaters, edgers, and drills.

 

Determines and obtains needed equipment and cleaning supplies; ensures tools and supplies are properly cleaned, stored, and secured; and picks up and delivers work supplies and materials.

 

Delivers and picks up mail to and from County buildings; and operates mail postage meter.

 

Locks and unlocks County buildings for daily operation.

 

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Assists with setting up for special events and festivals.

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by up to one (1) year previous experience performing custodial work;  or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and

abilities for this job.  Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License.

Annual salary $29,931.20
