Under the general supervision of the Wastewater Superintendent & Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, a person in this position functions as lead maintenance mechanic, and provides technical and specialized mechanical repair to sewage equipment and facilities. Supervisory control is exerted over all other wastewater maintenance positions and laborers.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises wastewater maintenance laborers by assigning, inspecting and evaluating the work of crew members in repairing equipment and facilities.
  • Use of specialized hand, power, and cutting tools and equipment.
  • Repairs and replaces defective parts.
  • Dismantles, or partially dismantles, electric equipment by using hand and power tools in order to gain access to or remove faulty parts.
  • Oils and greases moving parts of various pieces of equipment.
  • Maintains a log of lift station maintenance and operation.
  • Responds to emergencies concerning the operation of the water and wastewater plants. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of sufficient education to read, write, and communicate effectively at the level required for the position.
  • Several years’ experience in construction and/or building work including work in general plumbing, carpentry, electrical and mechanical repairs, installation and service.
  • Extensive knowledge of pumps, motors, and electrical control systems.
  • Possession of a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
  • This position requires extensive on-call response coverage.
  • This position may also require weekend and holiday plant coverage on a rotating basis.
