JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the shift supervisor, a person in this position performs skilled duties and receives constant training in extinguishing and preventing fires and in the protection of life and property. No supervisory control is exercised by a person in this position.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responds to alarms of fire and other emergencies as assigned.
  • Perform firefighting work, including preventing, combating and extinguishing fires to protect lives, property and the environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate fire equipment and tools appropriately.
  • Provide emergency medical care within scope of practice.
  • Quickly and effectively analyze hazardous situations and take appropriate course of action.
  • Learns the rules, ordinances, and laws governing fire safety and firefighting through periodic attendance of training classes necessary for certification, practical application, and instruction from superior officers.
  • Participate in training, classes and drills in firefighting, emergency medical care, disaster response and specialized rescue.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 Must be at least 18 years of age, a high school graduate or GED equivalent and a valid driver’s license. Must obtain state certification within one year of employment, pass pre-employment physical agility assessment, have no felony convictions in any jurisdiction within 10 years prior to employment and pass an in-depth background check. Desired experience and or state certified firefighter.

 

Minimum Salary: Ucertified: $35,568 annually

                             NPQ Certified  $37,794 annually

                              Incentive for EMT Certification
