General Definition of Work

Develops primary messaging and marketing information for ACCG (“the Association”) ensuring consistency across the Association. Produces and edits content for association internal and external communications efforts. Provides and exhibits outstanding customer service, teamwork, and organizational commitment. Supports the overall organization by executing the directives as set forth by the Association. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Communications and External Affairs.

Position Responsibilities 

Marketing and Digital Communications

  • Contributes to the management of the association’s website and social media channels. Responsible for soliciting and writing content for website features and news stories and monitors the website for information that needs to be deleted using the content management system. 
  • Implements social media campaigns on county government hot topics and association programs/initiatives. Manages association Flickr, Vimeo, and YouTube accounts. Creates and manages a quarterly social media content calendar for all association accounts.
  • Supports the Association’s communications and marketing goals by creating digital mediums such as video and photography as requested to proactively address hot topics and other priorities.
  • Assists with the production of Georgia County Government magazine and produces the weekly Local Lens e-newsletter. Develops content outlines; coordinates with staff, volunteer and freelance writers and photographers; writes editorials and articles; and edits all content and proofs.
  • Writes and distributes press releases (especially those associated with the annual conference, board appointments, awards, certificate presentation, etc.).  

Awards Programs

  • Coordinates the ACCG Awards & Recognition Program and Georgia County Excellence Awards Program. Outlines the annual requirements; solicits nominations and guides selection; writes award overviews; and coordinates award recognition.

Conference and Other Special Project Support

  • Serves as part of the conference and meeting planning team. Provides input into the selection of the conference theme, keynote speakers and continuing education sessions, the conference agenda and special events. Assists with conference and meeting promotion; assists with conference app/website development; proofs conference program and other printed materials; provides editing and graphic design support for County Buyers Mart materials.
  • Assists onsite with speakers and logistics for the general sessions and other conference special functions as needed.
  • Requires occasional overnight travel, typically 12 nights per year.
  • Supports logistics for staff engagement activities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, communications, and/or journalism, and
  • Introductory level (typically 1 year) professional experience in a communications support role or related internship experience.
  • Exhibited experience:
  • Writing and editing diverse communications tools, including e-newsletters, websites, press releases and magazines;
  • Supporting and/or executing media relations and social media strategy and development;
  • Assisting with event planning and special projects; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; thorough knowledge of writing and editing techniques required to prepare written and multimedia communications tools.
  • General knowledge of AP style.
  • Proven experience in media and public relations; thorough knowledge of public information principles and practices of public relations media. 
  • Skills in research and organization; skill in the use of standard office software applications, specifically Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word and Excel as well as video production equipment and software; ability to develop promotional copy and perform technical editorial work; ability to write public information reports and releases.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, media representatives, member jurisdiction representatives, appointed and elected officials, preferred partner representatives, and the general public.
