Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the Director in the supervision of landfill operations, and environmental compliance monitoring and correction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs the duties outlined by the SW Director to maintain compliance with Georgia EPD rules and regulations.
  • Ensures that all land, air and water permits, are in compliance.
  • Assists in securing waste streams and overseeing special waste disposal needs for customers. 
  • Assists with daily landfill operation as necessary, to include operating equipment to perform compliance task.
  • Assists the Director in planning, directing, and managing the operation of the landfill in accordance with department, state, federal, and county regulations; conducts site inspections.
  • Ensure erosion control measures are in compliance at all landfill sites.
  • Installs BMP for erosion and sediment control at landfill sites.
  • Re-vegetates disturbed locations at all landfill sites. 
  • Assists with planning special events and activities, including the annual fishing derby and employee parties.
  • Assists the Director with developing and implementing short & long range plans and goals.
  • Assists the Director with developing and implementing policies and procedures, to EPD rules and regulations for landfill compliance.
  • Supervises the work of other staff personnel.
  • Determines procedures and methods for disposal activities in compliance with applicable plans, regulations, and laws.
  • Interprets landfill Design & Operational plans.  Makes recommendations to the Director for site improvements.
  • Analyzes landfill operations, including past and predicted solid waste disposal, land reclamation, amount of waste handled, and space requirements.
  • Prepares various monitoring activity and financial reports in excel and power point.  Works with Waste Works landfill ticketing and invoicing software.
  • Assists the Director with preparing the annual department budget.
  • Confers with Director, outside consultants, and other solid waste managers to resolve problems and provide technical advice.
  • Supervises the operation of heavy equipment to install BMPs or site maintenance throughout the landfill.
  • Monitors quality of materials produced, including topsoil, compost, and mulch.
  • Interprets blue prints and landfill operational plans in order to instruct heavy Equipment Operators in proper refuse location and handling methods.
  • Assists the Director in drafting specifications for site improvements and in requisitioning supplies, fuel, and safety equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
