Camp Joyful Soles Counselor in Training (CIT)

The City of Milton is looking for a highly qualified individual to serve as a Camp Joyful Soles Counselor in Training (CIT).

The Counselor in Training (CIT) is a volunteer position. The role of a CIT is to be a mentor, teacher, guide, and support system for the teenagers who attend camp. The CIT program is designed to prepare you to become a paid Counselor with Camp Joyful Soles. 

The main goal of the CIT is to promote a fun and safe camp environment for all teenagers who attend.  The CIT’s chief responsibilities that help achieve this goal are: Assisting the camp counselors with a specific group of individuals through the daily camp schedule, providing support and encouragement to all campers, assessing the needs of camp and providing this feedback to the leadership team and working with team members to ensure that the needs of all campers are met.  The CIT reports to the Camp Manager, Supervisor and Lead Counselor. 

Essential Functions:

  • Engaging teenagers in play and social activity throughout the day
  • Leading activities and adapting activities so that all children can be successful
  • Guiding teenagers/young adults and encouraging them to explore new ideas and increase independence
  • Filling out forms for discipline, accidents, and illness
  • 1st year CIT’s will be limited to a maximum of 2 weeks of volunteering

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a rising high school freshman (or older); Interest in interacting or working with people with special needs/mild disabilities; CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred.

Salary:

This is considered a volunteer position.
