JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the site supervisor, the Day Camp Coordinator position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the camp program. This includes facilitating the daily activity schedule, managing camp counselors, and liaison with parents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                     

  • Mediate complaints from youth, parents, and the public.
  • Responsible for program and activity pre-planning, conflict resolution, and time management.
  • Enforces camp policies and procedures.
  • Makes innovative suggestions for programs, problem solving, and inefficiencies.
  • Adheres to all housekeeping and safety standards and sees that the camp participants do not violate those standards.
  • The Day Camp Coordinator position will assume other responsibilities within the scope of the position as assigned by the Park Supervisor and/or Program Coordinator.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications include a High School diploma or GED with two (2) years progressively responsible experience in a related field sufficient to understand the diverse objectives and function of the Day Camp Coordinator’. Candidate must be familiar with the Day Camp Handbook and Summer Camp Staff Manual. Must be willing to relate to children in a positive manner, be able to take & follow directions from supervisor, ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and the public.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to day camp participants.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the Day Camp Handbook and Summer Camp Staff Manual.
  • Interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and plan with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to day camp setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with camp counselors to ensure daily housekeeping, safety standards and program activities are executed.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires certification in CPR and First Aid (city-sponsored). A valid Georgia Driver’s License is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires lifting, bending, running, crouching and being able to stand for long periods at a time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT   

This worked is performed both indoors and outdoors, depending on the schedule of daily camp activities.
