Listing Summary

The Cherokee County Community Development Agency, in partnership with the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG), is offering a summer internship, which will provide valuable local government experience.

The ACCG Community Development Internship is a temporary, part-time position, working up to 29 hours per week from around June 1 through August 11, though dates and hours are flexible, at a wage of $15.00 per hour. This internship is funded by ACCG through the Georgia County Internship Program (GCIP) Grant, awarded to Cherokee County in February 2023. Additional funding is provided by the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners. The complete job description is available through the link provided.  

The Intern will work in the Cherokee County Community Development Agency under the supervision of the Planning and Zoning Department. The Intern will research, study, and develop an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) ordinance to present to the Board of Commissioners. The Intern will work closely with Planning and Zoning Department staff and receive training and direction on the process of developing an ADU ordinance.

The ideal candidate is a currently enrolled college or university graduate student, actively pursuing a Master’s Degree in public administration, planning, architecture, public policy, or a similar field, with an interest in working in local government, particularly in municipal planning, housing, or public management, with excellent researching and presentation skills.
