Veterinarian Technician

We are looking for a Veterinarian Technician!

The purpose of this classification is to provide surgical assistance, post-operative care, administer medications, prepare sample for laboratory examination, and duties consistent with shelter medicine best practices under immediate, direct, and/or indirect supervision of a licensed veterinarian.

Responsibilities

  • Assists veterinarians in examining animals to determine the nature of illnesses or injuries.
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly area in all areas used for the assessment, care and treatment of animals.
  • Fills medication prescriptions.
  • Monitors animals recovering from surgery and notify veterinarians of any unusual changes or symptoms.
  • Cleans, maintains, and sterilizes instruments or equipment.
  • Examines animals to detect behavioral changes or clinical symptoms that could indicate illness or injury.
  • Administer medication, immunizations, or blood plasma to animals as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Collects laboratory specimens, such as blood, urine, or feces, for testing.
  • Prepares surgical equipment and pass instruments or materials to veterinarians during surgical procedures.
  • Prepares feed for animals according to specific instructions, such as diet lists or schedules.
  • Provides emergency first aid to sick or injured animals.
  • Performs routine laboratory tests or diagnostic tests, such as taking or developing x-rays.
  • All duties listed for veterinary technicians in the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association - Scope of Practice for Technicians.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year in the veterinarian field
  • Candidates may qualify with any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess Veterinary Technician license issued by the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine.
