Wastewater Plant Operator Class 2 Wastewater Department

Pay Grade: 19- non exempt

                             

Major Function and Purpose: The Wastewater Plant Operator Class 2 is a full-time FLSA non-exempt position. The Wastewater Plant Operator is under limited supervision, performs specified duties associated with wastewater plant operations. The wastewater operator will report directly is responsible for performing various assigned tasks for the Public Works Department. Should have the ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information. Has comprehensive knowledge of the terminology, principles, and methods utilized within the department.

 

Essential Job Functions for Wastewater Plant Operator Class 2:

  • Reviews and interprets operating data from the treatment facility
  • Inspects wastewater plant facilities, equipment, and property to ensure all is in working order
  • Help generate/ collect data for monthly/ annual reporting to state agencies
  • Maintain records and files as required by EPD discharge permits
  • Collects wastewater samples and performs required test as required by state permits and federal laws
  • Operates pump station and holding pond to achieve land application
  • Monitors gages, meters, and control panels
  • Performs and assists with preventative maintenance of repairs of equipment and vehicles
  • Performs general cleaning tasks necessary to keep plant facilities and equipment in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, mowing, trimming grounds at plant and spray fields, washing/cleaning equipment, sweeping/ mopping floors, painting floors or walls, painting pipes, or emptying trash containers; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Promote and maintain high morale and enthusiasm for the City of Temple.

  • Ability to multi-task is an asset in this position

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment which may include a pH meter, dissolved oxygen meter, beltpress, centrifuge, spectrophotometer, pumps, chemical feeders, or portable radio. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to SOlbs of force occasionally, and/ or up to 25lbs of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary work. Must be able to lift and/ or cany weight of 50 to 10O!bs

Work Environment:

The work is typically performed independently. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, contagious or infectious diseases, and irritating chemicals. The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, safety vest and any other personal protective equipment as needed.

(ADA) minimum qualifications or standards required to perform essential job functions Hours and work schedule:

The employees will be required to work 40+ hours a week, 8 hours a day and the normal work

week will be Monday through Friday. Must attend and remain at work regularly and adhere to policies and procedures regarding absences and tardiness. Provides adequate notice to supervisors with respect to vacation time and time off requests.

Desirable Education and Responsibilities:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalency, ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations
  • Must possess a valid Georgia Driver's license
  • The operator should have a minimum 2-3 years wastewater experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. The applicant must have a Wastewater Class 2 Operators certification from the state.
  • Must be able to maintain, as needed, after hours on call status. This is due to the sensitive nature of the water and wastewater systems and requirement for immediate response. This is to include nights, weekends, and early mornings. The employee will be compensated for any time that is worked.
  • Basic computer literacy to include windows based programs
  • The ability to understand various computer programs with little to no instruction
  • Any combination of training or experience in any related field
