We are looking for a Design Engineer!

The purpose of this classification is to assist the County Engineer in the planning and performance of engineering duties, including design, inspections, plan reviews and other engineering and surveying related tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the County Engineer in project design, engineering studies and preparation of reports for public infrastructure projects.
  • Prepares and maintains the County’s EPD Stormwater Management Program permit and annual reports.
  • Assists the County Engineer in conducting land surveys to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours.
  • Assigns County house numbers. Reviews/approves requests for driveway pipe permits; performs inspections to ensure compliance with established guidelines and regulations. Reviews/approves County roadway cut permits and timber permits.
  • Performs inspections of subdivisions to ensure compliance with established guidelines and regulations.
  • Screens dry weather outfalls as required by local storm water licensing; observes, monitors, documents structures and condition of outfalls.
  • Conducts traffic count surveys.
  • Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel; responds to requests for service.
  • Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new technologies, equipment, trends and advances in the profession; attends conferences, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field, or eight (8) years of engineering experience under the direct supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer (PE). 
  • Must possess an Engineer in Training (EIT) license acknowledged by the State Board of Registration or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
