We are looking for Senior Planner!

The purpose of this classification is to provide professional planning and urban design services in the Engineering Department and includes performance of long-range planning, activities regarding growth management, transportation planning, zoning and land use planning for the unincorporated areas of Floyd County.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains the County’s comprehensive plan and performs other long-range planning activities regarding growth management, transportation planning, zoning, etc.
  • Assists in direction, development, and implementation of growth management, land use, economic development, utilities, housing, transportation, parks, intergovernmental agreements, or other plans and codes to meet the County’s needs.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports, cost estimates, and plans for planning related projects, and County facility/infrastructure improvements.
  • Oversees County projects; engages in contract negotiations; inspects work; orders materials; authorizes payments; and serves as liaison among contractors, sub-contractors, supervisor and/or the County Manager.
  • Meets with federal, state, county, and local officials on a regular basis to discuss projects from long-range plans to finalization.
  • Assists in developing the Countywide Capital Improvement Program associated with the Comprehensive Plan; coordinates meetings with other departments.
  • Researches and prepares special projects as required including impact analysis studies, data compilation, and program organization.
  • Researches the availability of grants; prepares and submits grant applications; and coordinates the implementation of grant awards.
  • Performs current planning, building, and site plan review duties as necessary; meets with developers to review plans and plats for compliance with the Unified Land Development Code and zoning codes; and reviews and makes recommendations for approval of preliminary and final plats.
  • Operates a personal computer, engineering and surveying equipment, general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, computer aided drafting, GIS, or other planning software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in urban planning, public administration, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of related work experience in professional planning, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
