REPORTS TO:                           Building Superintendent

 

A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park’s existing operational success. The purpose of this position is to perform skilled-level electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures following the standard practices of the electrical trade.

 

Essential Functions:

Independent judgment is required to identify, select and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures as well as interpret precedents. This position is responsible for ensuring that all electrical and other maintenance work orders are completed in the Convention Center. Successful performance contributes to the efficient and effective operation of the Convention Center facilities.

  • Installs, maintains, and makes repairs to electrical power and lighting lines, cables, and associated parts of circuits.
  • Installs switches, outlets, fuse boxes, circuit breakers, meters, light fixtures, electric motors, and electrical appliances.
  • Installs transformers, converters, and similar equipment.
  • Tests and repairs electrical equipment and appliances, run power circuits and provides electrical connections for machinery.
  • Assists with other corrective and preventative maintenance activities relating to plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and painting when necessary.
  • Provides electrical and mechanical service for trade shows.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in installing and repairing electrical wiring systems, controls, and electrical machinery.
  • Thorough knowledge of the provisions of the appropriate electrical code, and pertinent City or State inspection and safety requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications, carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical practices: Considerable skill in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and correct electrical power, lighting, or communications failures.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions for working with energized electrical lines.
  • Knowledge of City and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory as it relates to the electrical industry and work of a Line Laborer.
  • Skill in the operation, maintenance, and routine repair of hydraulic equipment used in electrical construction and maintenance.
  • Skill in setting poles.
  • Skill in the methods, materials, and tools used in overhead and underground utility construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to perform work on electric utility facilities in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Ability to perform general equipment/tool maintenance duties.
  • Ability to lift heavy articles and perform physical labor.
  • Ability to understand complex oral instructions.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public.
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills. 
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.  
  • Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.  
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability. 
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average-weight up to one hundred (100) pounds, standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day, climbing poles, bending, crouching, or stooping, and using tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguish between shades of color.

Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent; some electrical technical coursework required.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in electrical maintenance work; equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must possess a valid State of Georgia Driver’s license
  • Experience in communicating with diverse communities, and in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Extensive hours and weekends will be required at times.
  • Pre-Employment screening is required: criminal background check and drug testing.
