PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to greet and direct visitors to the Oconee County Administrative Building, answer and direct phone calls, handle inquiries, reports of issues, questions, and complaints, and perform a variety of administrative duties to support the daily operations of Oconee County Government. This role demands a high degree of courtesy, organization, and professionalism. This role interacts with all departments within Oconee County Government.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Answers and directs phone calls to the appropriate department or individual

Directs visitors to appropriate destinations

Answers general questions

Communicates with the public using telephone and web-based tools

Demonstrates proficiency in verbal and written skills with the use of excellent grammar and punctuation

Has broad working knowledge of Oconee County Government’s policies, procedures, and standard practices and operations

Maintains a well-organized reception area

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by previous experience as a receptionist or in a customer service position preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Knowledge of office procedures, methods, and equipment, including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Ability to work under steady pressure with frequent interruptions and a high degree of public contact by phone or in person

Ability to multitask

Strong organizational and time management skills

Understand, interpret, and apply general administrative and departmental policies and procedures

Use applicable office terminology, forms, documents, and procedures in the course of work

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Human Interaction: Must be able to interact and communicate in a calm professional manner, even in confrontational situations.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate all equipment, machinery, tools and materials used in performing essential job functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise good judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.

ADA COMPLIANCE

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to fulfill the essential functions of the job such as walking, stooping, sitting for extended periods, typing, bending, reaching for overhead files, and occasional lifting (must be able to lift up to 25 pounds). Must be able to operate motor vehicle and to perform tasks involving manual dexterity, such as use of a computer. Duties will be performed primarily in an office type environment. May require travel between facilities or to external agencies.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate depth and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee will be assigned to an interior work area within an office building. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
