The Automotive Technician I is responsible for the inspection, repairs and maintenance of city-owned vehicles and equipment. This position is responsible for some fabrication and welding work related to the repair of vehicles.
SCHEDULE: Normal operation hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High school or GED; supplemented by three (3) years of automotive repair experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Licenses or Certifications:
Valid State of Georgia driver’s license; G1 ASE Certifications or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment; Series ASE certification of ability to obtain within two (2) years of employment

This position is deemed safety-sensitive and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is moderate work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Work requires regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a shop environment. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, odors, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents or toxic agents.
