The City of Johns Creek Police Department is seeking a CSI Evidence Technician to manage and safeguard crime scene evidence and in-custody property. This critical role helps ensure the integrity of investigations and legal proceedings through expert evidence handling and documentation.

About the Role:

Under the general supervision of a Sergeant, the CSI Evidence Technician plays a vital role in collecting, preserving, and managing evidence from crime scenes to courtrooms. You'll work both in the field and the lab, assisting with processing crime scenes, maintaining evidence integrity, and preparing documentation for use in legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Receive, store, catalog, and dispose of evidence and property following legal and departmental standards.
• Assist in processing crime scenes: photographing, sketching, collecting physical evidence, and identifying biological substances.
• Operate specialized equipment for fingerprinting and forensic analysis.
• Maintain crime lab records and ensure accurate chain of custody.
• Prepare detailed reports, crime lab logs, and official documentation.
• Train personnel in evidence handling procedures and department protocols.
• Testify in court and assist in legal proceedings related to evidence.
• Transport evidence to and from state crime laboratories.
• Comply with CALEA accreditation standards and participate in audits.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

• Associate's Degree in Evidence Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, or related field.
• 2 years of experience handling, receiving, storing, or disposing of police evidence/property OR equivalent education and experience.
• Valid Georgia Class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred:

• Certification as a Certified Property and Evidence Specialist (CPES).

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of forensic and criminal evidence handling standards.
• Familiarity with court systems and laws governing evidence processing.
• Ability to use specialized software, maintain detailed records, and prepare reports.
• Strong communication skills - both written and verbal.
• Ability to work in challenging environments, including exposure to crime scenes.
• Ability to uphold confidentiality, security, and integrity in handling sensitive materials.
