POSITION: Shop Mechanic

JOB SUMMARY:
The City of Ashburn Public Works Department is seeking a skilled and experienced Shop Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in tire change, equipment service support, and heavy equipment maintenance and repair. This position is crucial in ensuring that our fleet and equipment are in optimal working condition to support the city’s infrastructure and public works projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment, vehicles and machinery.
- Change and repair tires on trucks, tractors and other heavy equipment.
- Conduct inspections and diagnostics to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
- Service and maintain hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions, and other mechanical components.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with other team members to prioritize and complete work orders efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the shop.
- Provide support for emergency repairs and service calls as needed.
- Stay updated with the latest industry standards and best practices for equipment maintenance and repair.
- Welding is not required but would be a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- 2-5 years of experience as a mechanic, preferably with a focus on Heavy Duty Equipment and Vehicles.
- Proficiency in tire changing and repair techniques.
- Strong knowledge of Mechanical, Hydraulic, and Electrical Systems.
- A valid Georgia Class B CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is not required but, preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong Communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Physical ability to lift heavy parts and equipment and work in various weather conditions.
