Position: Solid Waste Director (FT)                                               

Department: Solid Waste                   

Starting Pay Rate:  $80,000/annual – $82,000/annual    

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for managing, planning, organizing, and directing the Solid Waste Department.

Major Duties:

·         Schedules and supervises the work of all employees.

·         Oversees and administers department budget.

·         Ensures invoices and payments are applied to customer accounts.

·         Ensures landfill is in compliance with state and federal regulations.

·         Oversees training programs for employees in proper disposal of waste.

·         Oversees operations of scales as needed.

·         Operates heavy equipment as needed.

·         Maintains records of daily operations.

·         Prepares reports for the state or county as needed.

·         Oversees collections of methane samples.

·         Interviews prospective employees and makes hiring decisions.

·         Ensures equipment is properly maintained and serviced.

·         Oversees deposits to the bank.

·         Oversees operation of Leachate Treatment plant.

·         Serves as liaison between department and the public, county and state officials, and other departments.

·         Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the department.

 Minimum Qualifications: 

·         Five years of experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems.

·         Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

·         Possession of or ability to readily obtain State of Georgia certification as a Certified Landfill Operator.

·         Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

·         Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

The successful candidate must complete a Background/Reference Check and Pre-Employment Drug Screening prior to the start of employment.
