Computer Network Technician
General Nature of Work
Under general supervision, the desktop support technician will be the first level of support for end user requests. In this role, you will provide maintenance of the computer desktop environment by analyzing requirements, resolving problems, installing hardware and software solutions, and supporting the internal IT Helpdesk. You will be responsible for administration and internal support of the Company’s PCs, printers, servers, and related equipment. Tasks include end user support, license tracking, and performing PC maintenance, upgrades and configurations.
Examples of Work
- Assist in troubleshooting all City departments’ telecommunications systems and effecting repairs where applicable.
- Assist in troubleshooting various departments’ audio visual and security systems and effecting repairs where applicable.
- Assist in maintaining and operating City Hall’s audio visual program, including recording all City Council and public meetings.
- Monitor and respond to support requests submitted via email, phone call, and walk-ins.
- Prioritize and escalate requests as required.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Windows OS (10-11), Server 2016-2025, Office 365, desktop applications, and networking issues.
- Familiar with web design, epically Word Press.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic computer hardware issues.
- Set up Active Directory user accounts and Office 365 email accounts.
- Assist with onboarding of new users
- Manage PC setup and deployment for new employees using standard hardware, images and software
- Ensure each workstation has a computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, hard drive, and any additional specialized equipment
- Install and update desktop software.
- Work with remote support tools to resolve common issues.
- Work with little to no supervision if necessary.
- Willingness to learn and keep up with current technology.
- Knowledge of network/phone wiring.
- Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Education/Experience Qualification
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associates or diploma from a Technical school in IT related program
- 2 year of experience in the IT field. More years of technical experience may substitute Associates degree or technical diploma.
- Familiar with router configuration and IP networks.
- A working knowledge of Active Directory (adding user, group policy etc..).
- Also familiar with wireless networks.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 25 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for medium work.
