Summary

DEPARTMENT:      Public Defender

ENTRY SALARY:   $21.21 per hour, plus benefits

JOB SUMMARY:   This position provides support and assistance for the criminal investigation functions of the Public Defender’s Office. Gather reports, recordings, summaries, and other information from a variety of agencies to assist investigators by ensuring case files are ready for use by attorneys. Reviews files and notes from investigators to determine which agencies are needed to supply information. Performs data entry to ensure the accuracy and completeness of information in both electronic and hard copy files. Analyzes social media records, phone records, and other records to assist with investigations and defense. Composes and prepares a variety of summaries of records, applications and forms to assist with investigations and defense. Process confidential and sensitive information. Conducts jail interviews with clients to obtain information; prepares detailed interview reports. Maintains a variety of files, records and reports. Performs related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
