Job Summary:
The City's Technology Services Department is an internal support department of the City that performs a high level of customer service. The Technology Services Technician I provides first-line technical support and services to all City departments, ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient technology operations across administrative, public safety, and community service functions. This role emphasizes professional customer service, timely issue resolution, and hands-on technical work in support of laptops, mobile devices, printers, networking equipment, security systems, and citywide applications. The Technician serves as a trusted technology resource helping to maintain essential City services.
Essential Duties and Functions:
- Follows and promotes policy and procedures of the City of Winder.
- Provide prompt, courteous, and effective technical support for City staff across all departments.
- Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, network equipment, surveillance cameras, and related peripherals.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues; escalate complex issues as needed.
- Install and maintain in-car video, police/fire Mobile Data Computers (MDC), and interview room audio/video systems.
- Perform help desk functions, basic system administration, password management, and network access support.
- Maintain inventory of technology equipment and components.
- Maintain handheld devices including mobile phones, tablets, and ticket printers.
- Install and maintain cabling, wiring, and related infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with security protocols; report security concerns immediately.
- Support audiovisual systems in conference and public meeting rooms.
- Provide user orientation and training for new equipment and applications.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and perform system updates as directed.
- Maintain accurate documentation for service requests, problem resolutions, equipment maintenance, and asset management.
- Assist with procurement and management of supplies and replacement parts.
- Maintain and update City websites as required.
- Assist with installation, maintenance, and support of voice communications equipment.
- Participate in after-hours/on-call support as required.
- Respond to customer service requests in a timely manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Possession of a valid Georgia driver’s license.
- As a condition of employment, the employee will be required to obtain and maintain job related licenses and certifications as specified by the supervisor. The employee will be provided a reasonable timeframe to obtain licenses and certification.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, computer support, networking or a related field. Certificate computer programs will be considered in conjunction with experience.
- Two (2) years of experience in a technology related position.
- Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, and printer related issues.
- Experience installing software, patches, and updates on desktops and laptops.
- Experience troubleshooting basic network issues.
- Minimum of 21 years of age.
- Never been convicted of a felony.
- A citizen of the United States or has obtained legal work status.
- Must pass a detailed background investigation.
- Work evenings, weekends and/or holidays as required.
