Chain of Command/Report To:

Through the Chain of Command to the Director of Public Works.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the maintenance of City parks, grounds, facilities, and rights-of-way. 

Essential Job Duties and Functions:

  • Operates light and heavy machinery including commercial mowers, tractors, weed eaters, blowers, and others.
  • Applies herbicides and pesticides as needed.
  • Repairs fences, playground equipment, and sidewalks.
  • Installs and maintains irrigation systems.
  • Lays sod.
  • Removes litter and trash from parks and city buildings.
  • Installs landscapes.
  • Prunes trees and shrubs.
  • Pours concrete.
  • Vacuums leaves.
  • May be required to work outside normal work hours in on-call and emergency situations.
  • Performs other remated duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of light and heavy equipment.
  • Skilled in the operation of assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Skilled in interpersonal relations.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication.

License and Certifications Required:

  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License required and maintains a good driving record. 

Qualification:

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • A citizen of the Unites States or has obtained legal work status.
  • Must pass a detailed background investigation.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
