Summary

Job Opportunity: Finance Director

Monroe County is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Finance Director to oversee and direct the County’s financial operations. This leadership role is critical to ensuring financial stability, transparency, and accountability in serving our community.

About the Role

The Finance Director will manage all aspects of county finances, including accounting, budgeting, investments, payroll, and compliance with state, federal, and professional standards. This position works closely with the County Manager, Board of Commissioners, and all county departments to provide strategic financial guidance and oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct countywide financial operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, GASB, FASB, and state/federal regulations.
  • Develop and manage annual operating, personnel, and capital budgets.
  • Oversee treasury management, investments, and debt obligations.
  • Lead the preparation of financial reports, audits, and SPLOST program accounting.
  • Manage payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger reconciliation processes.
  • Supervise and develop finance department staff.
  • Provide financial guidance to county departments and constitutional officers.
  • Oversee insurance, capital improvement programs, and fixed asset management.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in government finance or accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles, budget management, and payroll.
  • Experience with governmental accounting software a must; experience with Edmunds GovTech Software a plus.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
