POSITION TITLE: Personal Property Auditor FY26-44
DEPARTMENT: Tax Assessors
ENTRY SALARY: $31.49 per hour, plus benefits
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the supervising and participating in the identification and appraisal of personal property. Receives, audits, and appraises personal property returns to ensure taxability, correct levels of depreciation, and exemption qualifications; conducts research to determine and estimate value on property that is new or non-returned. Processes appeals; prepares and presents information to the Board of Equalization, Hearing Officer, or Superior Court. Conducts property discovery; compiles information and prepares reports. Interprets and explains state and local laws pertaining to personal property appraisal and assessment. Prepares and processes various forms, reports, and documents, including personal property forms, exempt forms, account corrections, spreadsheets, etc.; makes recommendations for adjustments or deletions from tax digest. Assists Tax Commissioner’s Office and other taxing districts with exchange of information and resolving problems. Prepares and processes Public Utility Notices of Assessments and Notifications to all taxing districts. Provides secretarial support to the Board of Assessors as needed. Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; consults with staff to assist with complex problems and situations. Ensures pricing guides for all personal property types are current. Performs Board of Assessors secretarial duties. Performs related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Ability to meet necessary requirements of Appraiser III as mandated by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
