Position: Heavy Equipment Operator (FT)

Starting Salary: $18.25-$19.25/hour

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy road maintenance and construction equipment. 

Major Duties:

·      Operates a variety of heavy equipment to facilitate department work processes safely and efficiently. 

·      Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure that it is in proper operating condition; checks brakes, mirrors, lights, wipers, belts, hoses, air pressure, fluid levels, etc. 

·      Cleans, services, and makes minor repairs to equipment. 

·      Performs equipment maintenance duties such as lubricating, greasing, and checking air, oil, gas, and other fluids. 

·      Loads dump trucks and hauls sand, dirt, clay, asphalt, and other materials to work sites. 

·      Flags traffic and work sites. 

·      Operates a variety of hand and power tools. 

·      Locates utilities. 

·      Clears debris from roads and rights-of-way. 

·      Hauls equipment and materials to and from work sites. 

·      Mows county rights-of-way. 

·      Cuts trees; removes and chips storm debris. 

·      Patches holes using asphalt or cold patch. 

·      Cleans culverts and storm drains. 

·      Assists with snow removal operations. 

·      Installs driveway pipes. 

·      Grades county roads. 

·      Seals cracks in asphalt. 

·     Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

·      Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

·      One to three years of experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems. 

·      Possession of a valid CDL license, Class A preferred, issued by the State of Georgia.

 

The successful candidate must pass a Background/Reference Check, Pre-Employment Drug Screening, and Hearing Test prior to the start of employment.
