POSITION TITLE: Investigator FY26-43
DEPARTMENT: Public Defender
ENTRY SALARY: $28.53 per hour, plus benefits
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for conducting investigations in support of the work of the Public Defender’s Office. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Senior Investigator.” Assists attorneys in making preparations for court, including assisting with required paperwork. Interviews clients, victims, and witnesses; conducts follow-up interviews as directed by the attorney; prepares detailed interview reports. Obtains all discovery evidence from the District Attorney’s Office; coordinates with DA Investigator as needed. Conducts jail interviews of clients to obtain information; prepares detailed interview report. Prepares and delivers, mails, or faxes subpoenas to witnesses. Conducts bi-annual case audits of all case files. Assists in the maintenance and service of county vehicles. Attends court to provide assistance to the attorney or to offer testimony as required. Reviews jail booking reports to identify potential clients. Maintains a variety of files, records, and reports. Performs related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain GCIC/NCIC certification.
