The City of Peachtree Corners is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented professional to serve as Municipal Court Clerk and Deputy City Clerk, with primary responsibility for Municipal Court operations. This position ensures the efficient administration of the Municipal Court while supporting the City Clerk in maintaining official city records, legislative processes, and compliance with Georgia law.
Primary Responsibilities – Municipal Court
• Maintain and organize municipal court records, dockets, and case files.
• Process legal documents, including citations, warrants, and dispositions.
• Prepare and maintain court calendars; notify attorneys, defendants, and witnesses of hearings.
• Collect, record, and reconcile court fines and fees; issue receipts and update financial records.
• Provide customer service to the public, attorneys, and law enforcement regarding court procedures.
• Assist the Judge in the courtroom, recording proceedings and swearing in parties as needed.
• Ensure compliance with Georgia state reporting requirements (including conviction reporting to DDS).
• Enter, validate, and manage GCIC data in compliance with state guidelines.
Secondary Responsibilities – Deputy City Clerk
• Assist the City Clerk with preparation, distribution, and maintenance of agendas, minutes, ordinances, resolutions, and official city documents.
• Assist in maintaining custody and organization of official city records in accordance with Georgia records retention schedules.
• Assist with responding to Open Records Requests and ensuring compliance with the Georgia Open Records Act.
• Serve as Deputy City Clerk and act on behalf of the City Clerk when designated.
• Support special projects.
• Provide customer service and guidance to the public regarding city and court procedures.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a municipal court, legal, or government administrative setting (court experience strongly preferred).
• Working knowledge of Georgia Municipal Court procedures, GCIC requirements, and state reporting mandates.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and court/case management systems.
• Ability to type at least 50 words per minute.
• Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain GCIC Security Certification.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license.
Certification Requirements
• Must complete the 16-hour Basic Municipal Court Clerk Certification Course through the Georgia Municipal Courts Training Council (GMCTC) and Institute of Continuing Judicial Education (ICJE) within 12 months of appointment.
• Complete Municipal Clerk Training
• Certification is mandatory for all Chief and Deputy Municipal Court Clerks in Georgia.
• Ongoing continuing education is required to maintain certification.
