Public Safety Support Specialist


Summary

The City of Hinesville is accepting applications for a Public Safety Support Specialist in the Hinesville Police Department.  The position is a non-sworn employee of the Hinesville Police Department and is trained to perform various administrative, technical, and clerical functions in support of basic police operations that do not require full police powers. Support specialists are responsible for responding to and investigating minor service calls, ensuring that sworn officers are available to handle emergencies, high-priority calls, and more complex issues. Applicants must be able to work various shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Major Duties Include:

  • Conducts preliminary inquiries into misdemeanors and field interviews, including interviewing victims, complainants, and witnesses, gathering information and evidence, and securing the crime scene if necessary. Answer questions from the public regarding police service; respond to inquiries regarding laws, ordinances, and vehicle codes.
  • Prepare reports on non-hazardous arrest, traffic violation, impounded property, and other case reports. Maintain contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserve good relationships with the general public.
  • Direct and control pedestrian and vehicular traffic at emergencies or other congested traffic situations.
  • May perform desk officer duties including answering telephones and directing calls as necessary; monitoring police radio traffic; entering data in the department records management system; monitors, enters, and retrieves data from G.C.I.C./N.C.I.C.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED. 
  • Must be computer literate and able to type at least 50 wpm with 90% accuracy.
  • Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.  
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must be able to work various shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • An associate degree or higher in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, public relations, or a related field.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish or other needed language.
  • Advanced report writing skills.

Minimum starting salary is $44,912.74 ($21.59/per hour) plus excellent benefits.  Applications will be accepted through February 13, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
