This position is responsible for manual work of a routine nature that involves heavy physical labor as a member of the Sanitation Department. This position receives recycle materials from residents in a safe, effective, and environmentally friendly manor, while separating, sorting, and loading into labeled bins.
· Empties trash cans at City Parks and picks up Trash.
· Drives Sanitation vehicles to pick up trash.
· Greets City residents in a friendly manor and directs their vehicle to unloading zone.
· Accepts recycle materials from City residents; places materials in correct bins; and rotates full bins with empty bins as needed.
· Operates forklift to move heavy bins as needed.
· Sweeps and cleans loading zone as required to prevent sharp objects from damaging resident’s vehicles.
· Cleans garbage carts and makes repairs to used carts as needed.
· Works Saturday and Sunday, twenty (20) hours per week.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or equivalent; or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
· Knowledge of city and departmental policies and procedures.
· Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules and regulations.
· Knowledge and or experience of recycling processes or programs a plus.
· Ability to work independently.
· Ability to observe and follow necessary safety precautions in all areas of assignment.
· Ability to work well with co-workers.
· Ability to interpret instructions and efficiently carry them out with minimal supervision.
· Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
· Ability to operate and drive both Class IV & V Wheeled Tire Forklifts.
· Has minimum Class “C” driver’s license to drive City vehicles.
· Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with residential customers and the general public.
The Sanitation Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks work in progress and reviews completed work for the nature and propriety of the final results.
Guidelines include city codes, departmental and safety policies, and procedures, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are clear and specific but may require some. interpretation in application.
The work consists of related sanitation, refuse collection and street maintenance duties.
The purpose of this position is to maintain sanitation and refuse collection. Successful performance helps ensure timely collection of garbage and a positive public image for the city.
Contacts are typically with co-workers.
Contacts are typically to exchange information and provide services.
Work is typically performed with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. This employee must frequently lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, and use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
Ability to work overtime as needed. Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
Ability to perform strenuous manual labor and lift objects than 50 pounds. Ability to work in hot, cold, or inclement weather.
Work is typically performed outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, irritating chemicals, machinery with moving parts, and occasional inclement weather. This work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED, possession of or ability to possess a valid State of Georgia driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. CDL holder preferred.
