The City of Hinesville is accepting applications for a Communications Director. The Communications Director serves as the head of marketing, branding and public relations for the City of Hinesville. This role is responsible for the creation and oversight of all creative marketing materials, maintaining the integrity of the City’s brand and branding policies and developing and distributing publicity.
Major Duties:
· Directs the Communications Specialist responsible for developing and producing high-quality, informative and interesting press releases, press kits and related press materials.
· Serve as the City’s media contact and is responsible for facilitating and scheduling interviews and for responding to media inquiries
· The Director will oversee comprehensive digital content production, including multimedia storytelling, visual design standards, video messaging, and web content optimization
· The Director will elevate and strengthen content creation standards across the organization, setting clear expectations for high-quality, strategic, and consistent communications.
· Develops, in conjunction with the Mayor, City Council, City Manager and Department Heads, an annual media program emphasizing various City initiatives and programs.
· Assists the City Manager in the development of a strategic communications plan to support the organization's mission, goals and objectives
· Directs promotional events, press conferences, tours, visits and exhibitions
· Directs and implements the City’s emergency communication plan and serves as a member of Liberty County’s critical workforce that stays behind with the Emergency Management team in the event of a natural disaster/emergency.
· Prepares speeches, talking points, presentations and general communicative information for the Mayor and City Manager.
· Leads and manages a team of public relations staff, including interns, part-time and full-time personnel
· Serve as a legislative liaison to ensure that City news and needs are being effectively and consistently communicated to the City’s contracted legislative consultant.
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 3 or more years of experience in marketing communications, preferably within the non-profit government sector OR Associate’s Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the above-mentioned areas. Minimum of 3 years of supervision/management of teams engaged in corporate communications, public relations, video production or social media.
