Pay Grade: 105 Salary Range: $37,312.79 - $57,834.84
FLSA Status: JOB SUMMARY Non-Exempt

This position performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance work supporting the construction, repair, operation, and upkeep of City infrastructure, facilities, vehicles, and public grounds within the Infrastructure & Amenities Department. Work includes stormwater and roadway maintenance, grounds and facility upkeep, equipment operation, and assistance to skilled trades to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient public services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Maintain and repair Infrastructure & Amenities (formerly Public Works) facilities,

 

equipment, vehicles, streets, drainage systems, and public grounds.

 

Inspect, operate, and perform basic maintenance on assigned vehicles, tools, and

 

equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.

 

Assist skilled workers in the construction and repair of infrastructure, including

 

headwalls, catch basins, and related stormwater features.

 

Locate utility lines to prevent damage during maintenance and construction activities.

 

Respond to service requests and complaints related to water and sewer leaks,

 

stormwater drainage and flooding, burst pipes, pressure loss, or no water; evaluate

 

conditions and report findings to supervisor.

 

Operate trucks and maintenance equipment as assigned to load, haul, and unload

 

materials such as gravel, sand, debris, and equipment.

 

Operate power construction and grounds maintenance equipment, including chain

 

saws and similar tools.

 

Perform facility maintenance including cleaning floors and restrooms, washing

 

windows, removing trash, repainting outdoor facades as necessary, and maintaining

 

building surroundings.

 

Maintain public grounds through mowing, seeding, planting, trimming, and refuse

 

pickup.

 

Repair potholes in City streets and roadways; install traffic control and flag traffic as

 

necessary to ensure safety.

 

Replace, install, and repair traffic posts and signs.

 

Remove loose trash and debris from streets, roadways, and public areas.

 

Perform stormwater maintenance including cleaning retention ponds, ditches, catch

 

basins, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and related infrastructure.

 

Respond to emergency service calls during inclement weather events, infrastructure

 

failures, or urgent public safety conditions as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

High School Diploma or equivalent; and one (1) year of related experience; or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience. Must obtain and maintain required safety certifications as assigned. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Must have the ability to obtain the CDL within 6 months if required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in

 

Infrastructure & Amenities (formerly Public Works) operations.

 

Knowledge of the use and basic maintenance of mechanical equipment, grounds

 

maintenance tools, and infrastructure maintenance equipment.

 

Knowledge of departmental operations, safety procedures, and traffic control

 

requirements.

 

Knowledge of basic mathematics.

 

Skill in using hand tools and operating trucks and maintenance equipment of various

 

sizes.

 

Ability to obtain certification in Flagging Safety and Safe Trenching and Excavation.

 

Ability to work in confined spaces.

 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other

 

departments, and the general public.

 

Ability to prepare and maintain basic records and reports.

 

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

 

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.

 

Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

The work is heavy physical work. The employee may occasionally be required to exert up to 100 pounds of force. Work is performed in and around heavy machinery, vehicles, and active roadways. This position requires frequent bending, squatting, twisting, lifting, carrying, climbing, crawling, and prolonged standing. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, cold, rain, noise, dust, and potentially hazardous materials. Duties may require working near traffic, heavy equipment, and active construction zones.
