JOB TITLE: Public Works Director    

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the daily operations of the department of Public Works, including streets, water and sewer system maintenance.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Schedules, assigns and monitors the work of department personnel.
  • Supervises and instructs employees on work methods, procedures, and standards related to their assignments.
  • Evaluates the work of department personnel, disciplines, as necessary.
  • Plans work schedules, including vacation and leave requests.
  • Supervises water and sewer system maintenance duties.
  • Ensures that road construction and maintenance meet state specifications.
  • Maintains required records and reports.
  • Locates water and sewer lines for utility personnel.
  • Makes on-site inspection of work in progress.
  • Reads water meters as needed.
  • Monitor roads to identify necessary repairs and improvements.
  • Ensure that road signs are installed properly and potholes are patched.
  • Operates equipment to maintain the right-of-way and recreational fields.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment.
  • Develops annual operating budget and presents to the City Manager.
  • Monitors expenditures under the budget.
  • Seeks bids for road construction and maintenance jobs from outside contractors, submits bids to the City Manager.
  • Makes water and sewer taps.
  • Locates and repairs leaks in water mains and sewer lines.
  • Flushes and maintain fire hydrants.
  • Maintains drainage ditches.
  • Applies lines and stripes to streets.
  • Performs general maintenance on city buildings.
  • Operates heavy equipment as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

§  High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

§  Valid drivers’ license is required.

§  Previous experience in supervision required.

§  Skill in oral and written communication.

§  Municipal Public Works experience.

§  GA Collections and Distribution licenses preferred.

§  Class three or higher, Water and or Sewer Operator licenses preferred.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.

This position is a full-time position, eligible for the benefit package offered by the City. Including Health Insurance, Dental and Vision Coverage.  Life insurance and a defined benefit (pension) retirement plan.
