Marketing Specialist


Summary

General Nature of Work

The Marketing Specialist is responsible for producing and executing the creative work that brings the City of Kennesaw's marketing strategies to life. This role owns content creation, graphic design, photography, and campaign execution, with a primary focus on promoting Smith-Gilbert Gardens, the Southern Museum, and Downtown Kennesaw. The Marketing Specialist also leads the city's partnership and stakeholder relationship development, building external connections that expand Kennesaw's visibility and community impact.

Job Responsibilities:

· Own and manage social media accounts and websites for Smith-Gilbert Gardens and the Southern Museum, producing and publishing content that is engaging, on-brand, and consistently updated; support Downtown Kennesaw digital presence as directed by the Communication Coordinator.

· Serve as the department's primary content creator and graphic designer — produce event graphics, flyers, posters, brochures, digital ads, and other marketing materials for citywide and department-specific initiatives.

· Execute campaign plans as directed by the Communication Coordinator, managing content production schedules, publishing across platforms, and monitoring performance for assigned channels.

· Lead photography and videography for city events and initiatives, maintaining an organized photo and video archive for use across all department communications and marketing.

· Own digital signage content production and updates, working within parameters set by the Communication Coordinator.

· Lead partnership and stakeholder relationship development — establish and maintain relationships with local businesses, tourism partners, and regional organizations to expand Kennesaw's marketing reach and represent the city at industry events, trade shows, and community functions.

· Lead giveaway, contest, and community engagement execution, managing logistics and fulfillment as planned by the Communication Coordinator.

· Perform ADA compliance remediation and execution on digital and print materials as identified through the review process led by the Communication Coordinator.

· Manage CMS uploads, scheduling platforms, email distribution tools, and website calendar updates to ensure timely and accurate content delivery.

· Coordinate advertising placements across television, radio, print, and digital platforms for assigned properties, monitoring performance and reporting results to the Communication Coordinator.

· Consult on marketing plans, campaign strategy, and analytics by providing subject matter expertise on Smith-Gilbert Gardens, the Southern Museum, and Downtown Kennesaw audiences and channels.

· Support the Communication Coordinator on citywide content creation and routine social and web updates as workload and priorities require.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

· Strong graphic design skills with demonstrated proficiency producing marketing materials across digital and print formats; experience with Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent design software preferred.

· Excellent written communication skills with the ability to craft compelling content tailored to specific audiences, platforms, and brand voices.

· Experience managing social media accounts and websites, with a solid understanding of content strategy, audience engagement, and platform best practices.

· Photography and videography skills, with the ability to capture, edit, and archive visual content for ongoing promotional use.

· Proven ability to build and maintain productive external relationships with business partners, community stakeholders, and tourism organizations.

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent production projects with competing deadlines.

· Familiarity with ADA accessibility requirements for digital and print content is preferred.

· Knowledge of advertising coordination across digital, print, television, and radio platforms.

· Experience in a public sector or government communications environment preferred.

· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

 

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field; experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, graphic design, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Physical Requirements: This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying

out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Salary Range: $50,371.01 to $78,075.07 DOQ (Exempt)
