Building Inspector

The Building Inspector inspects all phases of residential, commercial, and industrial construction work for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.

• Inspects all phases of residential, commercial and industrial construction;
• Performs electrical, mechanical, plumbing, gas, footing, slab, setback, limited fire/life safety, Americans with Disabilities (ADA), and structural inspections for compliance with applicable building codes and zoning regulations;
• Reviews construction plans, including schematic building and site drawings to ensure compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, gas, mechanical, limited fire, parking, emergency egress, ADA, and other applicable codes and ordinances;
• Maintains files of inspections, re-inspections, notes, and required reports;

• High School Diploma;
• Two (2) years of experience in a related field;
• Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and  
• Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License;
• Must be able to obtain the four (4) sections of I.C.C. Building Inspector Certification Modules (Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical Inspections) within a 24-month period from the initial date of hire.

The selected candidate must complete the following requirements prior to starting work with the City of Statesboro:

• Background Investigation
• Pre-Employment Urinalysis
• Pre-Employment Physical
