Downtown Development Marketing Specialist


Summary

Job Summary: This position will provide support for marketing economic development programs and incentives to the business community in the downtown area and coordinate the activities of the Main Street Advisory Board and the Downtown Development Authority. The Marketing specialist should be a competent professional able to grasp consumer behavior trends and generate creative ideas. The incumbent should also be well-versed in specialized marketing concepts, principles, and tactics.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Develop, execute, and continuously refine a comprehensive marketing and branding strategy that promotes the City of Stockbridge’s economic development assets, including available sites, redevelopment opportunities, business incentives, downtown programming, and quality-of-place amenities to attract businesses, developers, investors, and visitors.

·       Assist in research and analysis to support the development of new or the expansion of existing business development programs and incentives.

·       Support the department in marketing economic development programs and incentives to the business community.

·       Assist with the development and coordination of recruitment and retention plans for downtown businesses.

·       Assist with planning and implementing a variety of educational and public relations activities to create and maintain the downtown district, including activities that will stimulate economic development and incorporate historic preservation principles into revitalization of the downtown area.

·       Assist the Downtown Development Manager in coordinating the activities of the Main Street Advisory Board and the Downtown Development Authority.

·       Conduct outreach visits and maintain ongoing relationships with downtown businesses.

·       Identify, prepare, and implement grants, sponsorships, and other applicable programs to enhance the downtown district.

·       Support lead generation efforts by identifying and marketing development-ready sites, tracking prospect engagement, and assisting in business recruitment campaigns.

·       Write, edit, and/or proof community engagement communications which include, but are not limited to email, website, press releases, newsletters, social media posts, etc.

·       Assist with planning and implementing Main Street, Downtown, and Economic Development events and programs.

·       Coordinate with tourism partners (e.g., Visit Henry) to align marketing efforts with eligible tourism promotion activities and ensure compliance with Georgia hotel-motel tax regulations.

·       Perform other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required by the Position:

 

·       Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the business community, general public, and staff.

·       Ability to exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines;

·       Ability to instruct others in work procedures and provide specific project direction;

·       Ability to conduct research and analysis on the market and interpret the results into viable programs.

·       Knowledge of retention programs for businesses.

·       Must be skilled in social media content management, marketing, and various forms of communication to promote businesses.

·       Knowledge and expertise with accounting software

·       Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and web development tools (e.g., Dreamweaver).

Must have excellent interpersonal skills, well-organized, and detail oriented.

·       Exceptional communication and writing skills.

·       Solid computer skills, including MS Office, marketing software (Adobe Creative Suite & CRM), and applications (Web analytics, Google Adwords, etc.)

·       Thorough understanding of marketing elements (including traditional and digital marketing, such as SEO/social media, etc.) and market research methods

·       Must be able to work in a teamwork environment, have excellent time management skills, and adhere to deadlines.

·       Must be able to adapt to a changing environment and be flexible.

 

Supervisory Controls: The work of this position is performed under the general supervision of the Main Street Manager.

Guidelines: Guidelines include City and departmental safety manuals, policies, and procedures.

Complexity: The work consists of detailed marketing and economic development initiatives.

Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically co-workers and department heads.

Purpose of Contacts: Contacts typically occur to give and exchange information and provide services.

Physical Demands: This work is sometimes performed indoors with the employee sitting, standing, walking, bending, and filing. This work is occasionally performed during events and may require standing, lifting, and walking. 

Scheduling:

This position is generally performed between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm with occasional evenings and weekends for special activities. 

Work Environment: Work is performed in an indoor office environment and occasionally outdoors.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility: None

 

Minimum Qualifications: A degree in communications, planning, business administration, public administration, historic preservation, management, or a related field with one to two years of experience in either of these fields. Proven experience as marketing specialist or similar role.  Demonstrable experience in marketing data analytics and tools.  A valid State of Georgia Driver’s License.
