Job Summary:
This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the County's public work operations
Major Duties:
· Supervises, schedules, and evaluates the work of personnel engaged in performing a wide variety of public works construction, maintenance, and repair activities.
· Selects, trains, promotes, disciplines, counsels, and terminates department personnel; approves leave requests.
· Inspects department work in progress and upon completion for compliance with instructions, accuracy, and completeness.
· Prepares departmental annual and capital budget recommendations, monitors expenditures of the current budget.
· Manages public works construction projects.
· Manages state and federal grants/contracts.
· Develop and administer long- and short-term goals, objectives, and project plans.
· Develop specifications for construction projects; assembles bid documents; solicits bids for outside contractors; submits bid results for approval/award.
· Coordinates activities with other departments and with relevant state and federal agencies for work related to multiple departments.
· Responds to public complaints and concerns.
· Inspect roads and bridges to identify needs and prioritize maintenance and repair.
· Reviews plans and specifications for projects.
· Develop and administer department policies and procedures.
· Prepares a variety of regular and special reports.
· Ensure department operations meet safety and County policy requirements and all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
· Directs the selection and acquisition of materials, equipment, and hardware used in the department.
· Oversee the department's inventory control activities.
· Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
· Three to five years of experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department to direct and coordinate work within the division/department.
· Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
· Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
