Director of Building and Zoning

The Greene County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for a Director of Building and Zoning in the Building and Zoning Department. Applicants must be self-motivated, possess excellent verbal and organizational skills, and be able to work well with the public, county officials, and staff. Applicants must possess substantial experience in building inspection, code enforcement, permitting, zoning administration, or related local government regulatory functions. Possession of ICC and Georgia-required certifications applicable to building inspection, plan review, and code enforcement is preferred. The Director will oversee departmental operations and coordinate building inspection, plan review, permitting, and zoning functions through County staff and/or contracted service providers as authorized by the County

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Supervise department personnel and contracted service providers.

· Prepare reports and recommendations for County management and boards.

· Coordinate building permitting, inspections, plan review, and code compliance activities with staff and service providers.

· Interpret and apply County ordinances, zoning regulations, and adopted construction codes.

· Provide guidance and information to property owners, contractors, architects, engineers, developers, lenders, realtors, utility providers, and the general public regarding permitting, zoning, development, and code compliance matters.

· Investigate complaints concerning new construction, existing structures, zoning compliance, unsafe conditions, and permitted activities.

· Issue permits, notices, certificates of occupancy, and related compliance documentation as authorized.
